Upper Mustang Trek

Upper mustang trek is a unique trekking package that takes you to the untouched the trans- upper Himalayan mountain region close to the Tibetan plateaus. The dry and desert type region starting from Kagbeni in the south and ranging up to the Tibetan Border is generally referred as the Upper Mustang. The region is highly influenced by the Tibetan culture and has preserved age old Monasteries, culture ancient lifestyle and undulating landscape.  Upper mustang is a package of ultimate adventure with the superb view of the world highest mountains like Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and many more. The adventure generally starts from the kaligandaki George which is the deepest George in the world up to the Lo-Mangthang valley. Until October 1991 the Trans- Himalayan region of upper Mustang was restricted for the foreigners it was only after the date Nepal government announced the opening of these restricted areas for the Outsiders.

The upper Mustang Trek starts from Jomsom after you take a Scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. From Jomsom the trekking trail takes you through the picturesque villages and fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards, forests and rivers along the sandy and windy trail up to the Kagbeni. En route you pass through different villages with ethnic group of people, Pine and Juniper Forests, Mani walls, colorful chortens, Stones Carved with Enchants, Monasteries un till you reach the walled city of Lo Mangthang. This city has its own king named Jigme Palbar Bista who resides in a four storied architectural palace in the city.

Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Today we spend half day for trip arrangements and Half Day Guided Kathmandu valley Sightseeing Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Take a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara [823m/2,700ft] driving for about 6 hrs along the beautiful and scenic countryside rode. At evening go for Pokhara sightseeing.Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 04: Take a scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom & then trek to Kagbeni [2,858m/9,375ft] walking for about 3-4 hrs

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to chele [3050m/10,004ft] walking for about 5-6 hrs a day through the picturesque villages and fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards, forests and rivers along the sandy and windy trail of Mustang

Day 06: Trek from Chele to Syanbochen [3475m/11,398ft] walking for about 6-7 hrs climbing the Taklam La Pass (3,624m/11,923 ft) and through the juniper forests.

Day 07: Trek from Syanbochen to Ghaymi [3520m/11,546ft] walking for about 5-6 hrs passing through the teahouses, chortens and local villages, passes.

Day 08: Trek from Ghaymi to Charang [3500m/11,480ft]walking for about 4-5 hrs a day passing through the Mani walls, sacred stones carved with enchants, maize fields and willow trees.

Day 09: Trek from Charang to Lo-Mangthang (3700m/12,136ft) walking for about 5-6 hrs.

Day 10: Spend a day Exploring the Lo-Mangthang. Today you visit the Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar Tall Champa Lakhang "God house" the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa observing the panoramic view of the Himalayas.

Day 11: Trek from Lo-Mangthang to Drakmar [3810 m/12,500ft] walking for about 6-7 hrs enroute you will get to visit the Gyakar with more than 1200 years old Ghar Gompas. The primary figure of the gompa being guru Rinpoche.

Day 12: Trek from Dhakmar to Ghiling [3806m/12,484ft] walking for about 5-6 hrs a day.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang [3050m/10,004ft] walking for about 5-6 hrs.

Day 14: Trek back from Chhuksang to Jomsom [2700/8,856ft] via Kagbeni walking for about 6-7 hrs.

Day 15: From Jomsom Fly back to Pokhara. On arrival at Pokhara explore the lakes and markets in Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Day 17: Farewell and transfer to airport for flight back to destination country.
