Kanchenjunga Trekking

Kanchenjunga trek is one of the adventurous treks with classic trekking trail in Nepal. Kanchenjunga (8,586metres) also known as the Queen of Mountain is the world's third highest mountain peak and is situated in Nepal. The rich vegetation of the Kanchenjunga region ranges from the Subtropical to Glacial wilderness vegetation. The region holds wide variety of flora and fauna with some of the rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. Kanchenjunga trek is a long and challenging trek with its trekking trail passing through the most remote region of the eastern Himalaya very close to the Sikkim and Tibet. Picturesque valleys surrounded by the Majestic Himalayas, lush tropical jungle of rhododendron, chestnut and oak, huge Kanchenjunga glaciers, and spectacular view of the eastern Himalayas are the highlights of this trek.

Kanchenjunga trek starts from Basantapur. You take a 45 flight from Kaathmandu to Birathagar and then drive to Basantpur (2200m) for about 5 hrs.  From here you start trekking gradually up 6hrough the Forests and villages. This trek takes you to both Kanchenjunga Base Camp South and Kanchenjunga Base Camp North. En route you stay overnight in different villages inhibited by diverse ethnic group of people mainly Rais, Limbus and Tibetan Buddhist. You also cross the Mirgin La pass and reach the Yak pasture land of Ramche and Othang from where you can view the most spectacular close up view of the south face of Kanchenjunga.

General Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Fly from Kaathmandu to Birathagar and then drive to Basantpur (2200m). It takes about 5 hrs of driving.

Day 03: Trek from Basantapur to Chauki (2700m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 04: Trek from Chauki to Gupha Pokhari (2930m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 05: Trek from Gupha Pokhari to Nisum (2000m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 06: Trek from Nisum to Dovan (921m) walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 07: Trek from Dovan to Chirwa (1270m) walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 08: Trek from Chirwa to Sekhathum (1660m) walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 09: Trek from Sekhathum to Amjilassa (2510m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 10: Trek from Amjilassa to Kyapra (2730m) walking for about 4 hrs a day.
 
Day 11: Trek from Kyapra to Ghunsa (3595m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 12: Trek from Amjilassa to Kyapra (2730m) walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 13: Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4040m) walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 14: Trek from Khambachen to Lhonak (4785m) walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 15: Day trip to Pangpema walking for about 6 hrs a day.
 
Day 16: Trek from Pangpema to Khambachen walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 17: Trek from Khambachen to Ghunsa walking for about 4-5 hrs a day.
 
Day 18: Trek around Glacier (up to 5540m, if you want) / high camp
 
Day 19: Hike from High camp to Ramche walking for about 4 hrs a day.
 
Day 20: Trek from Ramche to Tseram (3870m) back to Ramche walking for about 6 hrs a day.
 
Day 21: Trek from Ramche to Amchekhola walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 22: Trek from Amchekhola to Ponphe walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 23: Trek from Ponphe to Kande Bhanjyang walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 24: Trek from Kande Bhanjyang to Lal Kharka walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 25: Trek from Lal Kharka to Taplejung walking for about 5 hrs a day.
 
Day 26: From Taplejung fly Kathmandu back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
